For seven weeks of my Junior Field Work Term, I worked as an apprentice to Graham Moss, a master printer, bookbinder, and publisher. My apprenticeship under Graham Moss’s guidance culminated in my creating a chapbook. I set the type, inked and pedal-powered the Arab Press, fed the paper into the press and hand-bound the chapbook. This project helped to deepen my understanding of and appreciation for the basic skills of hand-printing and bookbinding. The result “A Garland of Love Songs by Robert Burns” met Graham’s approval and far exceeded my expectations. It clearly demonstrated the dedication of a superb teacher who permitted me to learn and to publish my first book. Only two hundred chapbooks were printed.
